Nebraska Performance Accountability (NePAS) and Chadron Public Schools in 2013-2014.

Nebraska’s educational accountability system ranks school districts and buildings by student average scale scores on state Reading, Math, and Science tests.  Under the Nebraska Performance Accountability System (NePAS), school districts are ranked by: Status, Improvement, Growth and Graduation Rates. There are three types of rankings based on district NeSA test scores. Status, that ranks districts by average scale scores in reading, mathematics, writing and science; Improvement, ranking districts by the differences in the average reading and math scale scores of different students in the same grade; and, Growth which ranks districts by the differences in average reading and mathematics scale scores from the previous year. This rating is different from the federal Annual Yearly Progress (AYP).

The first chart below shows the Chadron District STATUS rankings for the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 school year. The district rankings are generated by adding all grade configurations (elementary 3-5, middle school 6-8, and high school grade 11) together.

This is the third year the state's accountability system, NePAS, has been in place.  The overarching goal for students is that they will be college and career ready when they graduate so they have successful work, military and/or college experiences.  We encourage parents to talk to their child's teacher, who is most knowledgeable about the performance of individual students.

However, one thing the state report card does not say is that higher ACT Scores equates to more scholarships & greater extended learning opportunities for students after leaving Chadron High.

Our district has a long tradition of using Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) Measurement of Academic Progress (MAPS).  This nationally norm assessment allows our district to view data through several lenses, such as, did the individual student grow from fall to spring testing, how did the student score as compared to his or her peers, and lastly, how does the student and/or grade compare to others across the state and nation?

The Chadron Public School will focus to align grade level and content area curriculum, analyze data, reflect, and determine a course of action to narrow our achievement gaps.  Part of that analysis is to examine more than one piece of data before decisions are made.  We are committed to continuous improvement.

The Commissioner of Education, Matthew Blomstedt stated, “Gains in student achievement are due to the collaborative efforts of teachers, staff, parents, and community members through high quality instruction, effective leadership, and partnerships.  We know that tests are an important part of teaching and learning, but we also understand that basing a student’s achievement on a single assessment does not capture everything that is important for our children’s learning journey.” Chadron Public Schools agrees with the Commissioner.

Thank you for your support and sharing your child or children with us.
