Dear Chadron Public School Families:As you may have heard in the media over the past two years, the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is undergoing significant changes as a result of policy decisions made by the White House, Congress and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in an effort to combat childhood obesity.
Parent Support Group
On Monday November 18, CIS is having a Parent Support Group meeting in the CIS Library at 3:15. We are trying a new time this year to see if it works better for some of you. Agenda items include:
1. CMS playground/DreamTeam-Mr. Dressel
2. Title 1 Review
3. Ways in which parents can volunteer

The Knights of Columbus will be hosting a chili-soup
fundraiser for the benefit of the Herman family to
help defray expenses in travelling to Minneapolis, MN.
The National Weather Service and emergency management agencies around Nebraska are urging residents to use Winter Weather Awareness Day on Wednesday, November 6th, to prepare homes and vehicles for winter. Businesses, schools, and media outlets should also review winter preparedness, safety, and communications plans to be ready for the hazards associated with winter weather. Forecasters at the Cheyenne NWS office are available anytime to answer weather forecast questions.
Title 1 Parent-Student Learning Compact
Parent:I understand that my participation in my child’s education will help his/her achievement and attitude. I agree to carry out the following responsibilities:
1. Provide a quiet place/time to do schoolwork and encourage my child to complete schoolwork.
2. Make sure my child gets adequate sleep and has a healthy diet
3. Make sure my child is at school on time.
4. Spend at least 15 minutes each day reading with my child.
5. Communicate and work with teachers and school staff to support and challenge my child.
Halloween Health and Safety TipsFor many people, autumn events like Halloween and Harvest Day are fun times to dress up in costumes, go trick-or-treating, attend parties, and eat yummy treats. These events are also opportunities to provide nutritious snacks, get physical activity, and focus on safety.Check out these tips to help make the festivities fun and safe for trick-or-treaters and party guests.Going trick-or-treating?Swords, knives, and similar costume accessories should be short, soft, and flexible. Please don't bring these to school.Avoid trick-or-treating alone.
SumDog Math ContestsWe are excited to announce the first Western Nebraska Math Contest to be held on SumDog. It is for students in grades 1-8, but we are just competing with 1st-4th grades.
SumDog is a free math website (www.sumdog.com) where the students can login and practice their math skills with some great activities and we can monitor their progress on any skills.
94% of parents attended the Fall Parent Teacher Conferences this year. We are so pleased that you were able to meet with us and discuss your student's progress. We also had great attendance at the Book Fair which sole over $1400 worth of books. CIS Library will benefit greatly with a percentage going toward free books.
Chadron Schools-K-4 will be releasing students at 1:15 (this is a change) today and tomorrow (Oct 21-22) for Parent Teacher Conferences. CIS parents have scheduled times that they will be meeting with the teachers. We will also be hosting our Book Fair in the gym. We look forward to seeing you!
