CIS students proudly display the quilts they made during the after-school program's Quilting Club. Thank you Mrs. Eliason and Mrs. Cogdill for the great help and patience.
Teachers across the district (PreK-12th grade) are discussing the AdvancED recommendations of developing an instructional model. We have chosen the Charlotte Danielson Model of instruction. We will discuss the rationale for this choice along with the Big Picture of this model including the 4 domains and their 22 elements, the Essential 8, and how this ties in with the Nebraska Frameworks.
CHS students shared their Endangered Species Projects they have been working on. They shared with 3rd and 4th grade students during library time. In 4th grade, we do our own research on endangered species so this will give our 3rd grade students some great ideas for next year.
Thank you CHS for teaching us about Endangered Species! Out of 63,000 species of animals and plants surveyed, more than 19,000 could become extinct!
When will I ever need to know this? Why do I need to learn Math? Will I every use this?
Kids ask these questions all the time but now we have a great answer- Ask Your Parents!
Third quarter was a busy one in fourth grade. Students prepared for and took the statewide writing test. Mrs, Swinney talked to them about NASA and helped them build and launch their own rockets. Mr. Horst had them skyping with a class in Texas. Flat Stanley, a character from a book by the same name, came to visit. He belonged to Mrs. Piercy's nephew from Illinois. He "helped" students take a math test.
Congratulations to Kolby Denke and Marlee Pinnt! You have "rocketed" through their subtraction facts and made it to the Milky Way!
Students discussed the weather with Chris Fankhauser recently. As a self-proclaimed "Weather Nerd", she helped explain some of the "Terminology" used in her job with 3rd grade students. We are enjoying the current weather and hope to do without any more freezing cold. Thanks Chris for visiting our classroom!
NEA's Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss. The 8th grade Chadron Middle School students read to 4th graders at CIS on Friday to celebrate Read Across America Day.
