Sheri Daniels and UNWNRD sponsored the 2016 Poster Contest again this year. She is standing with Trinity B. a local winner with her poster that will headed to Lincoln to be judged by other students across the state. The 2nd place CIS student was Taylor K. in 3rd Grade. Congratulations to both students!
Book ProjectsThe Big Idea for Unit 2 in reading is: "What can animals teach us?" Each student in my reading group had to pick out a chapter book that had an animal as either the main character or an animal played an important role in the story. We are now choosing which projects we will complete. Each child must pick two of the nine projects and will then give a presentation on their book. The presentations will be in two weeks. Below is their Choice Board.

This week is Fire Prevention Week and CIS students enjoyed visiting with our Chadron Volunteer Fire Department members early Monday morning. Students got a quick tour of the Rescue Squad. We also heard about a Fire Plan and what that should look like at our homes. Students should ask their parents where to go if their house is on fire. They talked about alternative ways to get out of a house if it is on fire.
Rob Wahlstrom presented Taylor Dickey a check she had requested from the Chadron Foundation. Mrs. Dickey will be using the grant money from the Foundation's Teacher Incentive Grant to purchase floor cushions, yoga mats, and other alternative seating options for her classroom. Mrs. Dickey said, "This is exciting because it will allow me to have enough extra seating areas in the room for every student ."
Kids-Don't forget to get your pictures of Elmo Eagle colored and returned to school by Monday (Sep. 26th)
Elmo will be collecting them and the winner gets to ride with him on the float during the CSC Homecoming Parade 2016!
Elmo visited CIS this week to visit with the student about the coloring contest! Where's Elmo?
This week CIS students have been working on SMART GOALS in their homeroom classrooms. Students brought their goal sheets they completed during the week to CARDS CLUB where they discussed their goals and created a "group goal" that would help our school Be Great! We had some great ideas that the students plan to put in motion. Some ideas included keeping our school clean, help students who need a friend, and treating others the way they want to be treated "The Cardinal Rule". We have a great bunch of students at this school but can all use some encouragement.
